# Trade panel

Source: https://ballistic.app/docs/trade/trade-panel/

After this, you'll be able to buy and sell any token in whatever unit you think in (native coin, tokens or USD) and stack orders in fast.

Every token page has an action panel with four tabs: **Trade**, **Withdraw**, **Liquidity** and **Tools**. The Trade tab is where you buy and sell the token: pick Buy or Sell, then the order type, **Market**, **Limit** or **DCA** (dollar-cost averaging, buying or selling in slices over time).

## Choosing your amount unit [#choosing-your-amount-unit]

You enter a buy amount three ways: in the chain's native coin (SOL on Solana), as a token amount, or in USD. You enter a sell amount four ways: as a percent of the token's total supply (capped at what you hold), as a token amount, as a native-coin value, or in USD.

Pick the unit that matches your intent. To spend 2 SOL, enter it in SOL. To clear your whole position, switch the sell unit to percent and hit 100%.

The sell percent is a share of the token's total supply, capped at your holdings, not a slice of your bag. Click 1% and you sell 1% of the whole supply, or your full balance if that is smaller. See [Sizing your sell](https://ballistic.app/docs/trade/sell-panel/#sizing-your-sell).

The panel converts whatever you type into the on-chain amount at trade time, using the live price.

## Market, Limit and DCA [#market-limit-and-dca]

- **Market** fills at the current price the moment you click. Use it for buys and sells you want to land now.
- **Limit** fills only when the token reaches a market cap you set. Use it to buy a dip or take profit at a target without watching the chart. Limit orders are available on Solana tokens.
- **DCA** splits one order into slices over time, to average into or out of a position instead of moving the whole size in one trade. See [DCA and TWAP](https://ballistic.app/docs/trade/dca/).

## Firing trades [#firing-trades]

A market buy fires immediately, with no confirmation popup, so you can click repeatedly to stack buys. Sells run one at a time per token: while one is running, a second is refused, so wait for the first to finish.

The rate limit is 300 buys and 300 sells per minute. Below that ceiling, every click sends another order.

Balances and prices update live as your trades land, so you see each fill without refreshing the page.

> **Note**
>
> On Solana after launch, buys and sells settle in SOL even for a token paired against a stablecoin such as USDC or USD1. The price and market cap still show in USD.

## Per-side settings [#per-side-settings]

Buys and sells carry separate settings. Each side has its own slippage, priority fee and tip, and a buy setting never applies to a sell or the other way round.

Default slippage depends on the chain. Raise it for a token moving fast, and keep it tighter on a stable one to avoid a bad fill.

| Chain | Default slippage |
|---|---:|
| Solana | 20% |
| BSC | 5% |
| Base, Ethereum | 2% |

## What can go wrong [#what-can-go-wrong]

| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Transaction fails | Slippage is too low for how fast the token is moving, so the price leaves your tolerance before the trade lands | Raise the slippage on the side you're trading. The Solana default is 20%; go higher for a fast mover. |
| You sold less or more than you meant to | Unit mix-up: you were in percent when you meant token amount, or in USD when you meant percent | Check the sell unit before you fire. Percent, token amount, native value and USD each mean a different size. |
| A "1000-token" sell was not "$1000" | Token count is not USD value: 1000 tokens is a quantity, not a dollar figure | Switch the sell unit to USD to size by dollars. |
| Limit is missing from the order types | The token is not on Solana | Limit orders are available on Solana tokens. Use Market or DCA on other chains. |
| "A sell of this token is already running" | Another sell of this token is still in flight | Wait for it to finish, then sell again. |
